Hackstaff, Snow, Atkinson & Griess, LLC is thrilled to announce that two of its attorneys successfully represented RIM Bio, Inc., in its sale to Avantor, which took place June 1, 2021.
Hackstaff, Snow, Atkinson & Griess, LLC Partner Douglas Griess and Ann West, Of Counsel, represented RIM Bio, a medical disposables and bioprocess manufacturing company, during negotiations with Avantor, a Fortune 500 medical materials company. RIM Bio successfully sold the Seattle-based company and its related Chinese entities and operations to Avantor.
The team at Hackstaff, Snow, Atkinson & Griess, LLC is happy to add this deal to its long track record of successful legal representation for businesses.
Avantor Acquires RIM Bio in $110 Million Deal
The sale of RIM Bio and its Chinese operations to Avantor, in part facilitated by attorneys Griess and West, closed for $110 million. With the sale, Avantor acquired RIM Bio’s single-use production plant in Changzhou, China. This is Avantor’s first such plant in the Asian, Middle Eastern, and African (AMEA) regions.
RIM Bio’s China-based operations were attractive to Avantor primarily due to its unique positioning to expand Avantor’s service area well outside its established service areas in Europe and the Americas.
RIM Bio brought to the table attractive Asia-based operations capacity and proprietary technologies, and top production lead times in single-use manufacturing of products used to make biologic products such as recombinant proteins, gene therapies, and monoclonal antibody (mAbs) vaccines. The acquisition of RIM Bio also doubled Avantor’s available single-use cleanroom space.
The sale of RIM Bio to Avantor followed Avantor’s earlier investment in Chinese operations. In 2019, the company opened a bioprocessing facility meant to serve biopharma companies in the AMEA region.
In representing RIM Bio throughout the sale process, Hackstaff, Snow, Atkinson & Griess, LLC attorneys ensured that the company was treated fairly and valued properly, taking into account all of the unique assets the company had to offer and Avantor’s desire to expand operations in the AMEA region.
